question about replacing instrument cluster light bulbs............... 850 1996

I purchased the bulbs, and instructional dvd, from IPD, and am going to go about replacing the instrument light bulbs today, but have a lingering question: When I took the instrument cluster out of my sister's '92 240, I first disconnected the (-) battery cable as a precaution so as not to "fry" any electronics on/in the cluster. Would it be advisable to do the same with the 850? Thanks you :)
