V70 tailgate latch V70-XC70 1998

Before I go to the dealer and buy a new latch, I am going to attempt to bend one of the rods that pushes on the latch to open it. Probably a dumb idea, but it is my last shot.
I have hesitated to take the latch off the hatch because of all of the plastic fittings; I am afraid I will break one of those plastic things and get into real trouble.
If you find yourself unable to open the rear hatch at all, I think if you crawl into the back and remove the floor hatch covering the spare, you will have access to the T40 screws for the striker plate.
If I have sucess in playing around, I will post it. Just don't hold your breath!
