Shop won't install parts I supply?? 850 1994

I'm here in Iowa City working for two months and drove the 850 Wagon out from the East Coast. Ordered some parts online (two front ball joints, bolt on kind and an AC accumulator) and brought those too. Called White Dog Imports, a recommended Volvo shop here in town and tried to make an appointment to have the parts installed. They won't do it. Some hemming and hawing about customer supplied parts. What's going on? Is there some liability issue I'm missing or are they just pissed that they can't mark up the parts??

Any thoughts?
