shifting 850

Hi guys,my 95 volvo 850 will start drive for about 10min then the flashing
arrow and the car looses power and won't move.turn it off for few min and
go few yards the same thing happend.took it to the dealer and they said i need
a new auto tranny.it just does not sound right because when the car is sitting
for a while it runs in all gears fine for about 10min then the problem starts.
does anyone have any idea or experienced the same problem.i want to find out
before i go for the tranny.thanks
