Microswitch vs. PNP switch 850 1994

Microswitch will keep you from shifting out of park into gear - it can be bypassed by depressing teh override btton on teh console and shifting with teh other hand. Has nothing to do with teh actual operation of teh transmission, only the movement of teh shift lever within teh console.

One other symptom of teh PNP can be back-up lights that stop working (lights are controlled by the PNP). Also, PNP symptoms often include transmission going into "limp" mode, ie: only starting in third gear with lots of slippage.
