bumps and thumps from rear end 99 S70 S70

experts -

my 99 S70 FWD (approx 60,000 miles) is making odd noises from the rear end. Its most noticable when I go around turns, and the noises occur as a series of short thumps, like doink, doink, doink... It seems to be getting gradually worse. No noise when driving straight.
