V70 steering rack replacement V70-XC70 1998

I just did this last april to my 98 v70 t5. It has 118000 miles. You either have an smi rack or a trw. both of them are supposedly identical is size and shape and are interchangeable. To determine what type rack you need, you have to check the vehicle id plate on the driver's inner fender. If the last number on the chasis number is a 4 you have a trw rack, if the last number is a 5 you have an smi rack. (chasis number, not the vin). I ended up picking one up at a bone yard for $120 cash, was able to make sure it was the right rack, and not leaking. It has worked fine so far. My indy mechanic charged me $200 to install.
