Rough tranny when starting from a stop V70-XC70

The wife's 2001 V70 T5 is in the shop today. Intermittent problem happens when starting from a stop. Sometimes if you get on the gas right after taking your foot off the brake, the car will hesitate and then roughly get into gear. When it is doing this, if you just take your foot off the brake and let the transmission slowly engage and then get on the gas there is no problem.

According to the dealer, a computer upgrade, at the cost of $170, will fix this problem. I asked if it is a software problem then why do I have to pay for the upgrade. They said it is my option to have the upgrade, and not doing the upgrade posses no problem to the car. I say BS but am stuck paying for the upgrade.

Anybody else have similar problem/experience?
