2002 Volvo S80 Battery Dying S80

Frequently, our 2002 Volvo S80 will not start as the battery is dead. We have had the battery checked and was told it was good. However, something seems to be draining the battery. Does anyone have ideas on the possible cause of the drain? The fan runs for awhile when the car is shut off, after driving. Is this normal? Also, the first time the battery died, it was jumped from the battery rather than the connection points in the engine compartment (Under the hood). Could we have messed something up in the electrical system in connecting directly to the battery in jump starting the vehicle?
