Am I getting BSed? 850 850 1995

I know the potetial problem that disconnecting the battery might cause, but the Volvo service people say it is a battery problem and the people who sold me the battery say it is an alternator problem. Everyone has hooked the car up to their diagnostic machines and everyone has a different result. The battery is 3 yrs old, but has been re-charged and holds the charge. Just wondering if there are other opinions out there as to the possible cause of the problem.

The battery outpu while running is 12.4 to 12.6 v. The voltage from the alternator to the battery is 12.8 v. But, that was without a load. Put a load on it and the voltage drops. Is the by deisgn or is it a bad alternator?
