It is just my opinion V70-XC70 1998

that the bevel gear fluids get too hot and burn. It will probably increase the life of the awd if fluids get changed every 60K miles or so. This none electric awd system gets abused by not rotating tires every 3K miles and continously slipping in parking lots and other low speed manuevers.
My 164 had its differential gear oil changed last year, first time since new. I thought it would a useless exercise because of all of the noise it was already making and I would need to replace the gears and clutch (limited slip). One of the rear tires was a smaller size than the other three, which didn't help any! All noises went away with the oil change.
I am hoping for the same with the V70 awd. I will post results as soon as I find out if the fluids can be bought at the dealer or elsewhere, and how much I will need. I was told that NAPA sells a hand vacuum pump which works very well.
