gas smell coming from the '96 850............... 850

The 850 has been doing so absolutely splendidly, and then this afternoon my parents came home from a good 70 mile drive and there is a mild gas smell in the garage. I should preface this by saying that it is 110F here in California, and that the fuel tank recall work was completed last fall. I haven't seen any gasoline on the floor, but I will keep an eye, and nose, on it. Any insight would be most appreciated. Thank you, and have a most wonderful weekend :)

p.s. I should also state that the gas cap is on properly.
