Replaced PCV and Knock Sensor still CEL 850 1994

I did! The 94 models have bad connectors at the knock sensors from the factory. Volvo makes an upgrade kit that replaces the bad connectors. I bought the kit from FCPGroton, here’s the link: http://fcpgroton.com/volvo850eng_electrical.htm#coil (originally FCPGroton didn’t have the upgrade kit so I replaced the sensors with new direct replacement ones and I was still getting a CEL, the kit from them fixed the problem). The kit wants you to re-crimp the old connectors with new ones that come in the kit. I didn’t want to deal with the possibility of that connection going bad so I sodered the new harnesses (the new harness comes with a new connector, so you’d only have to soder once) to the old wiring. It sucked taking the intake manifold out twice in a two week span, but it went MUCH faster the second time around.

Also in my research I read few (and I mean VERY few) reports that constantly getting a 143 CEL code could mean your ECM was going bad. But I was pretty sure this wasn’t my problem because before I replaced the knock sensors I was occasionally getting a knock sensor CEL, after I replaced the sensors the first time I got the CEL constantly (within 2-3 minutes of starting the car after resetting the code).

Let me know if you have any other questions or if installing the upgrade fixes your problem.
