Roof Rack on a Sedan, ideas? 850

My wife has had an 850 wagon for a while. It didn't come with the Euro Rails. I wanted a roof rack but refused to spend the enormous amount it costs to get fancy one. I bought the "Volvo" (Thule) rack that hooks under the top of the door lip and has feet that sit on the roof trim. I hate that style for a number of reasons I won't go into now. I pulled those pieces of trim off one time in tracing a water leak. Underneath I found some plasic wedge-like backers under where the rack feet sit. Under those, are some threaded inserts in the sheet metal, presumably where the Euro Rails mount?

Anyway... I just bought a '95 850 sedan. The crappy rack I have for my wife's wagon is designed to fit on the sedan too, but I don't want to do that. Does anyone out there know if those threaded inserts are there on a sedan too? I don't want to try to put Eruo Rails on a sedan, but it would make for a convenient mounting for something else. I'm a mechanical engineer, have 3 CAD systems and a full machine shop. I figure if I can't work out a better solution I should find another job.

Has anyone else thought about this? Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch,
Ben
