No, he's right about the difference in tire diameters being deadly to the AWD system. Maybe the threshold is not 2 mm, but it is some surprisingly small amount. As I said in my other note, my friend had exactly the same type of problem in his Jeep. His was the on-the-fly, always-on type of AWD system, not the traditional 4WD system where you have to get out and turn the locking hubs on the front wheels.
