1997 850 Strange vibrations on coming to a stop 850 1997

Hello all,
Had the 850 on a long highway drive today and noticed something weird, hopefully someone can tell me what's going on. When I was moving around 55-60 mph and had to come to stop, before the car came to a full stop there was a loud low rumbling noise which could be felt by the passengers in the back seat, they described as coming from behind them. I thought brakes at first, but the more it happened, the less I thought it was brakes. Anyone have this before and can point me in the right direction, I would apperciate it. My daughter needs to take this car to college in a couple of weeks, I want to make sure all is well.
Thanks...
Chuck Jaxel
