s70 ac problems!!!! MCC S70

I have a 98 s70 with Manual climate control. Sometimes when i start the car, the ac will not turn on, when this happens, recirc does not work either. The ac will not turn on after that until I trn the car off and on a few times. When the air does work, the recirc works as well. The other problem is, it will randomly go to defrost (even if the ac does not turn on) and stay there no matter what I do to get it off. I again have to turn the car off and wait a few minutes. Please, i need help as it is 100+ outside here in texas. THANKS!

( does this mean it is simply a bad control unit or could it be a bigger problem such as pressure switch or low battery voltage?)

BTW I charged the freon, it is at operating capacity.
