Brand new V70 vs. 9 y.o. 850, should I?

I have a 1997 850 with 143000 miles. My next oil change will cost me close to $1,000 (brakes all around, shocks, struts, etc. - you get the picture...) Just got a new timing belt, O2 sensor, PNP. Had the ABS light on for the last two years, still am planning to send it to Victor one of these days. I bet, you get where I am heading to: I am trying to justify an enormous expense of upgrading 850. According to www.carsdirect.com, I can get a brand new V70 (base model with a stick shift) for slightly over $23K (that is if I act before 8/31). Should I? What do people think about reliability of recent V70s? Any first hand experience here?

Thanks.
