So long as the radio says CODE, you are given 3 chances to enter the number. Only numbers 1-6. If it says ERR, then you will need to leave the radio ON for 2 hours before the radio resets itself and CODE once again appears.
Sometimes, used radios have a 4 digit number sticker in the top of them next to the serial number. Great for theft!
