Turbo replacement?!?!? V70-XC70

Hi gang...
I was recently offered to purchse a nice 1998 V70- a super clean car, in great shape, has 125K on the odometer, a very well maintained (this judging from receipts and knowing the mechanic the person used!)

Well it runs great for about 45 minutes to an 1 hour and then comes the smoking-apparently it needs a new turbo unit, at least the aformentioned mechanic suggests.

Does that sound at all accurate from the symptoms?
So what does a turbo replacemant entail- $$$, labor hours, difficulty??
Aftermarket or rebuilt units avail? Where, from whom?

Anyone done this??
