Ask your sister in law what the dealer offered her for trade in value, then add the sales tax to that amount and buy the car. Much less than $7K.
You will have the same problems with the ETM as you have on your current car.
As for the lab smell, replace the filter, vacuum the interior, shampoo the carpets, and then use AtmosKlear. All odor will be removed, without adding any perfumes.
