Maintaining an 850 850

Following are things that an HMO-type dealer shop or a mechanic paid on piecework might not have looked into, or may not be part of routine maintenance.

Timing belt and possibly tensioner and waterpump if not known to have been done.

Ignition switch may be worn. The functional part is not hard to replace.

Positive crankcase vent or rebreathing system / flame trap / throttle body need to be kept clean. Excessive oil usage or blown oil seals can occur if not done.

A/C requires specific diagnosis - evaporator leaks commonly occur (difficult to get to) but other things should be eliminated first.

Any "check engine" codes set?

If transmission starts to work erratically, the PNP or gear position switch may be worn.

Control arms/ball joints, strut and rear shock mounts, tierod ends are subject to wear and should be inspected.

The gas filled struts which lift the trunk or rear gate are fairly easily replaced.

Since the car has ABS it is wise to replace the brake fluid (using DOT4) every few years or so.

Other than the above, standard maintenance as done on any car, including timely changing of fluids, should do it.
