Nicks in my XC SE Steering Wheel V70-XC70

The XC SE came with a very nice wood/leather steering wheel. Unfortunately in my case, the wood part (seems more like plastic) has gotten numerous nicks and scratches over the years.

The dealer only replaces the complete steering wheel which is almost $500! I wondered if anyone has run into this problem and found a way to repair the nicks and scratches in their SE steering wheels? If so, I would love to know how or who could this to mine.
