Sorry, the link to this board was down most of the day.

Yes, the long rod needs to slide towards the lock. The plastic guide, when broken allows the rod to slip to the outside.

When I finally broke down and went to Borton's, they said it was not repairable and replaced the whole unit. Darn plastic!
