Do adjustment wheels for the dashboard vents pop out? V70-XC70 1996

Hello All,

I have a '96 850 GLT wagon with automatic climate control, but think V70 owners might have the answer to my questions. Each vent in my car's dash board has a control wheel to the right of the vent opening which "opens/closes" the vent. To close the vent, you turn the wheel up toward at "0" symbol.

Recently, the "0" symbol" fell back into the dashboard. I've been able to obtain a replacement from a salavage yard. It would be wonderfully easy if I could just "pop" the adjustment wheel out of the dash board. That would (in theory) give me access to the opening where I could fit back into place the missing "0".

Doe anyone know if this adjustment whell pops out? If there some other way of gaining access to where this "0" symbol pops out without removing the dash board? The vent I'm dealing with is located to the left of the steering wheel. I have removed the adjustable vent grill from the opening, but it does not provided access to where the slot of the "0" is located. Thanks to all who reply.

Hugh
