Removing 'Time for Regular Service' message V70-XC70 2002

A few months back MadeInJapan wrote a clear paragraph (which i include at the bottom) about how to reset the Service Light for '02-. It involved moving the key and pressing the odometer reset button. I tried all sorts of combinations of waiting times and key strokes, but the best i could get is a beep and the screen displaying 045 in the corner. I never noticed a yellow light.
Do any of you know what the 045 means? After a minute of driving, the "Time For Regular Service" message goes away and when interrogated, the screen says no messages stored. I used my Auterra code reader to tell me there were no messages stored (of the kind it could read). The "Time for Regular Service" still haunts me.
MadeInJapan's instructions:
Ignition to position I.
Press and hold reset button.
Key to position II within 2 secs.
Hold button in until original value reset.
A general yellow lamp will light when the reset button is released.
Reset the trip odometer with 4 secs or it won't work.
Hear audible signal when successful.
If trip odometer already reset, then hold button in min. 10 sec. max 14 sec.
