keyless entry S40-V40

Your Dad must have had work done at the dealership where they downloaded new software. Mechanics can change the software settings to enable/disable the lights to blink when the key fob is used to lock the car.
As for your S70, I had thought they all had alarms. Your car does not have a blinking light on top of the dash which comes on when you lock the car? No horn on the firewall? Roll down the window, lock the car, and then reach in and open the door from the inside. That should activate the alarm.
