Electrical problem...no start ..no run V70-XC70 1998

Killed my old interstate battery the old fashioned way .. listening to NPR sunday morning in the driveway. Bought a new battery that afternoon and drove around with no prob monday and tues morning. Went to start it tonight and the battery acted dead. Needed a serious jump from my 240 ... jump from my garden tractor wouldn't do it. After starting and idling for a few, putting on the lights will stall the engine. Re-jump start and try again ... same result ... actually put the car in reverse and it stalled with foot on the brake. Noticed headlights get brighter with higher idle speed and go dim as the car stalls. Tested the new battery at AutoZone and it checks good according to them. What think you fellow brickboarders? Volt reg., Bad positive lead? Oh almost forgot. Pos terminal had powdery corrosion after only 2 days.
