On the other hand 850 1998

If you get her the new car, the potential marital problem could be that you don't forgive her for that. In 1991 my dad wanted to buy my mom a new honda accord. However she wanted brown metallic which was only on the Prelude. So against his objections, he got her the Prelude. And she never heard the end of it. He still complains about that purchase, 15 years later!

I have a similar problem, in reverse. I want to get my wife something like a new Accord/camry so I don't have to mess with the 1997 850 any more as an rookie mechanic. But they just aint as much fun to drive. She likes the 850 and I don't blame her.
