Noise from Cabin Temp Sensor 850

Update to my earlier post. I managed to open the covers of the grab handle. At first, I didn't see the tiny slot that accepts the tiny slot screwdriver and then the covers actually hinge downward. Anyway, I removed the handle and side trim to expose the electronic fan motor of the Interior Temp Sensor. A Torx 20 was used to remove the two torx screws and the unit pulls free. Then you depress the green tab to release the electrical connector.

Once the unit was free from the car I took it to the bench and used compressed air to clean the unit. I removed the back cover (un-snap) of the fan and carefully pulled the fan from the body leaving the red and black wires connected. I then further cleaned the fan. I checked the fan housing for any spots where the fan might be contacting or rubbing. I used a Q-tip to clean all areas where there is obvious dirt.

I carefully reassembled the unit and reconnected it to the green connector on the car. While letting it hang free on the connector I turned the key to "accessory" and noticed the fan run briefly. I then started the engine and the fan runs a full speed. I cannot hear the fan now unless I move or tilt the unit in various directions. This may indicate the fan axle or what the axle fits into is worn which may require replacing the entire unit. Cost????

I will re-install everything and see if the noise is still present. At least now I know how to get the unit out without doing damage. Hope this helps someone.
