850 Starter replacement 850 1995

Yes you need to remove the fan shroud first.

Once you do then it will be easier. You just have to remember that there are 3 lines .. two red and one white which connects to the solenoid. There is also a green one which attaches to a spade bit.

If you thought a starter is a pain..the alternator is worse. I found you have to remove 5 bolts from the power steering pump. The first challenge is trying to fit your socket into the 12 cm bolt. The deep sockets will be too big and the small sockets too small. You actually have to remove the serpentine belt first. Then you have to move the wheel on the steering pump so the holes in it line up with the two bolts in there.

Once you get that out then you need to remove the 3 bolts holding on to the alternator.

Since you have the fan shroud out.. and going for the starter.. it might be a good time to go after the alternator too.
