1996 Volvo 850 R Spark plug lead order 850 1996

HI there

OK, Yep, I did avery stupid thing yesterday. I am replacing all my spark plugs and leads. Foolishly I took all the leads off together rather than doing them one by one. I did however label the distributor cap with a marker with the order I took the leads off. PROBLEM! I put in all the new plugs and leads and it coughed and splattered and ran really rough. I tried changing the order of the leads around and still no good (I followed the number order labeled on the distributor cap) Thinking I had majorly messed up I put all the original plusg and leads back on and it is still running like a dog

Q1. Could I have screwed up the engine by putting the leads on the wrong way?

Q2. Can anyone tell me what order they should be connected (possibly a pic?)

Q2. If I have indeed connected everything back up correctly why would it still be running really badly?

Thanks in advance
