850 auto stuck in 2nd gear! no down shifting, no reverse! 850

sorry, the blind rage of yet another problem with my beloved volvo got in the way of thinking properly, lol
(this is my second one)

1995 T5-R wagon, 186k on it. replaced the PNP switch myself, yes, have backup lights, tranny fluid is a little dingy, stalls when i put it in drive from park, no noises coming from the shifter.

think its second because the i redline around 45mph. also there is no engine braking at all!???
