wife`s 850 quits:no spark. Possible causes? 850 1995

Hi,
My wife`s 850 quit on her last pm(grocery store pkg lot fortunately), it has been running very well for quite awhile. Recently had a tuneup & the car has not experienced any startup problems. She had it towed to our local shop where we have had all work done in the past few years(gave up on dealer!). Our mechanic is not a Volvo guy but a competent mechanic AND HONEST. I talked to him late this afternoon & he said the car is not getting any spark.
What would be the possible causes here? I`d like to have wife mobile again soon as possible. I need my truck here on the ranch.
