Front shock kerplunk! V70-XC70

My V70XC has 100K and original shocks all around. Recently, I noticed a kerplunk kind of sound from the front right shock when it hits a speed bump or drops off a curb at low speed. This only happens first thing in the morning and then goes away after driving for a bit.

I wonder if this is typical for the front factory shocks at this mileage? If so and replacement is in order are Bilsteins the way to go in the fronts? I'm wondering if they are a good match for the factory rears (nivomats I think on XC models) which are still fine or will they be too stiff and change the characteristics of the vehicle which I'm pretty happy with.

Thanks,

RGW.
