Front end pain S70

I love my 98' S70 GLT w/ 140k , yet for some time the front end reacts really hard and stiff to any deviations in the road surface, I drive in New England and the winter wreaks havoc on the road with potholes.

Everytime I hit a considerable pothole, my teeth chatter and I said ouch(pg version of that)

I have had numerous front end repair, yet never have had the shocks/struts done, does anyine have any suggestions on how to test or how I can determine if those are the culprit ?

Thanks in advance

Fred
