Seat back 'twisted', cable broken. First Post here... 850 1995

Hi,

This is my first post here at The Brickboard and my first question with an 850. I've been driving 2 series cars for about 15 years but I picked up a '85 850 Turbo a few weeks ago to replace my latest '87 Wagon.

First impression: Wow, this sure isn't uncle Olaf's Volvo! I feel a little lost under the hood but I'm starting to get used to it...

My problem at the moment is this: The drivers side seat back is twisted, it looks like the right (inboard) side went further back than the drivers side and so far I'm having a hard tim figuring out how it did that!
I followed a FAQ on replacing the seat back cable and I've determined that my cable is in fact broken on the motor end so that'll have to be replaced... no big deal there.. but I need to get the two sides of the seat back "in time" with each other and also (I hope) figure out why it went out of alignment in the first place. So far I'm thinking that the seat went "out of time" and the stress snapped the cable, it looks like the cable snapping would have just stopped both side of the seat from moving at once.

So, any ideas (or links) on how to get the two sides of the seat to line up again or on why this may have happened in the first place? I can't see how one side moved independently of the other with the square bar connecting the gears on both sides. I ran out of light tonight but I'll try to examine the gears on both sides tomorrow.

Thanks for any and all input!
-Pellucid
