Front hub/bearing replacement V70-XC70 1998

Greetings Brickboard,
I suspect my front driver's side hub/bearing is just about done and I have a few questions about replacing it. For those of you about to refer me to the excellent write-up on volvospeed/bay13, I have already reviewed it. Here are my questions.

1. At very low speed <10mph, I hear a screeching noise which speeds up and slows down with wheel speed. It's more noticeable if I'm coasting/braking than if I'm accelerating. I have already checked the brakes. Is it likely the bearing, or could the axle be messed up too?

2. The Haynes service manual says to apply some "metal adhesive" to the splines of the CV joint splines before engaging the joint into the hub flange. Volvospeed/bay13 does not make any mention of this. What's the verdict on this?

3. FCP Groton sells genuine volvl hubs, and FAG or SKF hubs for considerable less. Any experience with the non-OEM brand hubs?

4. If I am taking off the hub, should I consider doing anything else while I'm in there?

5. Are the hubs the same for the T5, GLT, and base model for the 1998 year?

Many thanks,
-Greg
