Bad fuel pump? S40-V40

Last week my '00 S40 stalled about on the highway. Was going about 70 when the RPMs dropped out and the accelerator wouldn't give any throttle response. Had it towed and have been playing with it since.

This evening I disconnected the fuel filter and turned on the ignition. No fuel was pumped through the open line. So I am assuming that this would be a bad sender/pump, right? Before I did this tonight, I found that the pump would prime very randomly on ignition = on (1-2 times a day hours apart). Also, there was never any pressure out of the schroeder valve on the fuel rail.

Has anyone had any issues with a bad fuel pump? If the pump was working correctly, it would have sent fuel all over, right? Are they any inputs (immobilizer etc) that would disable fuel being sent?

Thanks
