peeling clear coat 850

Any suggestions on what to do, about 1/3 of the clear coat is gone, washing and waxing resluts in all green rags and towels.
The car runs good (140K) and looks bad, but I don't want to spend $1500 on a fullup paint job, the other end of the spectrum would an Earl Schieb $250 special, and that may end up with the it looking even worse. Many a light colred clothing hass been ruined by leaning against thae car for moire than a few seconds
