Rear Tires Uneven Wearing 850 1995

I've got a 95 850 Turbo Wagon with 196,000 miles on it. After a recent repair the mechanic noticed that my rear tires were wearing down to the belt on about 1-1/2" of the inner most tread while the rest of the tire was prestine. I had swapped the new snows with only about 6,000 miles on them from the front to the rear in early April. Since then I've probably put on about 14,000 miles.
My mechanic noted there was no appearent adjustment and thought a shim kit might work but was unable to locate such a part. The local Volvo dealer suggested it might be the wheel bearings. Anyone notice a similar problem and have a solution?
