1998 S70 T5... strange smell. S70

I have just picked up a 1998 S70 T5 with 240,000 kms.
There is a strange smell of what I would assume to be coolant in the cabin whenever I have the heat turned on. It is quite strong. Am I to assume that the heater core and/or some hose is leaking? There is no indication that there is any problems - and the heat comes on strong - it just stinks like some hot oil/coolant type smell (I know it isn't musty mildew smell) and it is strong enough to be uncomfortable for any period of time.

IF the S70 is like its predecessors, the entire car seems to be built arround the heater unit... am I in for some expensive repairs or can I access any part of the inner dash myself? I wold not say that I am gifted with tools or mechanical skills. Otherwise the car runs strong and tight - there are hardly any other rattles or squeeks for a car that old with that milleage.

Any advice...greatly appreciated!

Thank you and Merry Christmas!
