How to remove ECC Unit? Cabin temp sensor? V70-XC70 2000

I have just acquired an 00 V70 with auto ECC. As far as I have been able to tell, the AC is working OK but, of course, it hasn't been hot outside. The ECC error lights are blinking and I have read that, among other possibilities, the cabin temp sensor may need to be cleaned. It looks like the ECC unit itself needs to be removed in order to get to the back of the sensor. Are there instructions posted somewhere on removing the ECC unit? I just don't want to start prying, pulling, or jerking without being sure I won't damage anything.

I also removed the window defroster button next to the sensor, but it didn't expose any obvious way to get at the sensor through the front side of the dash unless the entire panel holding the window defroster button and the sensor could be removed at once. Is there a way to do that?

Thanks in advance for your help.
