Loosen axle nuts? 850

I'm attempting to change the hubs on my 97 850. Before jacking up the car I thought I would loosen both axle nuts. Except even while standing on the wrench with the 36mm socket over the nut, it will not budge. Both sides are giving me this problem. Do any of you have suggestions on how best to attach these without hurting myself or the car? (tried using a pipe slipped over the wrench, bent the pipe)

I'm thinking that during the last major job (replacing the rear main seal on the trans) the shop that did the work really cranked down on the nuts, beyond the recommended torque value by the shop manual.
