Fuel type for better gas mileage. 850

I have a 96 855 GLT N/A
Ever since I have owned the car I have been putting in 87 octane gas. I have been getting 310 to 330 miles on a full tank. It only recently has come to my attention through probably my lack of stupidity that I should be getting better gas mileage, would an upgrade to medium grade help things out, or would I need 93? In terms of service, everything is up to par, filters, plugs, tires are properly inflated. So is the octane that big of a difference?
