Is driving in W mode bad for the tranny???? 850

Rick with his 2 850s and I are having an almost private discussion regarding the use of the "W" mode in the winter. We need more input from others!

Question:

Does driving in "W" mode harm the transmission or cause more wear on the torque converter? Should "W" mode only be used for icey startup conditions, or is it safe to use from December to March?

Opinions wanted.
