Grinding noise from front left AND hot rotor after driving 850 1997

I read the post below re noise after changing bearings. My -97 850 has had this on/off noise from front left wheel for some while, more pronounced in right (?) turns. If the noise is on, it will go off when i touch the brake pedal. Furthermore, and this is my worry; the rotor is hot after driving for a while. The brakes are fine, no vibrations and even. And the car was serviced a few months back.

This indicates that my caliper is ready for retirement or what? Any other things to check before ordering parts?
