850T pros and cons 850

HI Volvo Guys,

I have a 240 saloon ('88 GTL Auto only 146K) and love its ride, style, town handling (visibility and turning circle).

As we go camping, I wanted a 740 or 940, but settled for an 850 T5 - VERY powerful (scarey first time I put my foot down to overtake a learner!!!)

It's a '96 T5 Auto wagon with 126K and has many positive points but some negative.

It came cheapish at £2200 (about $4000) and is reasonable for insurance.
On the motorway around Europe, I get above 30mpg at steady 75 - I wish it had Cruise Control...
Around town, it is expensive, well below 20mpg

It has a very poor turning circle, difficult to reverse around corners etc. not so easy to park but I'm getting used to it.

I service it myself and it seems well constructed - a bit tight in the engine compartment.

It has bags of room, especially if you remove all back seats (VERY difficult to put back in!)

No CD seems mean on behalf of Volvo - the unit here in UK is exorbitant.

Ride is firm (I'd say even hard) and handling positive and responsive.

Also it looks good.

But I must say that if I can find a suitable 940, I would probably change...
