Trunk Strut Bracket broke off!!! 850 1995

This year has not been that good for my 1995 Volovo 850. At 170K miles things started to break...

This morning I opened the trunk and the lid felt very heavy. I quickly discovered that the small bracket that sits deep in the trunk and to which the strut clips on is broken off (the strut us OK). I disconnected the strut from the hinge and now see that the bracket just cracked on both sides and tore off. I searched Brickboard and found nothing about this problem.

The question is - does anyone know how to get to the bracket location?? If it was accessible, I would just drill a hole and use a strong bolt/nut to attach it back. Or mayeb used a welder. But this is very deep in the thunk wall, those who replaced the struts know.
