ANSWER daughter's '93 850 dies 850

The A-1 slot in the code reader is for the tranny. Check it for codes. I always ask people to check the back up lights when in R. If they do not work and the arrow is flashing, a new PNP switch is required.
Make sure your daughter does not have the W button depressed :) And check or flush the tranny if it has been over 25K miles.
The cam pos sensor is a very good bet, and is fairly easy to replace. You are right about the replacement of the PNP, just be careful about alighment. Make sure the back up lights come on in R.
